Project-work Artificial Intelligence Integration Framework (PAIIF)

A good starting point to explore AI integration is open-ended project work. There is no one correct solution, and the students would generally engage in a range of tools to complete the tasks anyway. For those who are new to Generative Artificial Intelligence or AI, knowing where to start can be the biggest challenge.

A collaborative effort of 16 educators from 9 Australian universities got together to create the Project-work Artificial Intelligence Integration Framework (PAIIF), built upon CDIO. The framework provides a beginner's guide to help educators understand where and how AI integration can occur. It outlines the first steps to build confidence and get started.

Full documentation on the design and application of PAIIF is available for free download at the journal STEM Education.

While PAIIF is an engineering-focused framework, it can apply to other disciplines. The goal is to provide options for the academic community so that they can pick and choose relevant components. The following is a general guide on how to apply PAIIF.
